CFL Money Savings Bulbs and Funny Video

We have all heard of the many groups who want to press their issue on the masses and go to great lengths to do so. There are the environmentalists, No Nuke protesters, Al Gore disciples and even the neighborhood watchdog that makes sure you listen to every Condo rule. But in the next year there are all sorts of groups out to prevent the sale of, get this.... LIGHTBULBS.. Yes, Edison's finest invention is now the target of many governmental agencies and consumer groups.

WHY? The advances in compact fluorescent blubs (CFL's) have been so great that the old myths about their appearance and cost have diminished. Today CFL's are gaining the respect that many in the industry knew they would, it just takes time.

CFL's last 10 times longer, use one-fourth the energy and produce 90% less heat. It is estimated by industry economists that each CFL bulb that is put in use will save $62.50.

So That's a no brainer! Some would agree but what the biggest impediment has been, cost, the largest retailer, Wal-Mart is doing something proactive. Wal-Mart takes in over $1 Billion per day so when they get behind a project its gets good awareness. They also can compel manufacturers to see things their way. This past year Wal-Mart pledged to sell 100 million CFL bulbs. and they drove the price down to around $15 for a 6 pack of 60 Watt equivalent bulbs.

Is Edison's Invention on the way out?

All initiatives start in California. Well this one did.  There was actually legislation introduced a few months back to ban the sale of regular light bulbs after 2010 <
Here is the story > Now other groups are sounding the alarm and siding with the State of California.

Opponents of CFL's say that the flicker and dull light that is emitted is not enough to compensate for a switch. A recent Washington Post story tells of a household where one member was secretly installing the bulbs without telling the other.

Here is the video that sums it all up: CFL's have come a long way and are now a negotiating tool!

Alex Sifford, 51, has been buying compact fluorescent light bulbs, which use about 75 percent less power than incandescent bulbs. He sneaks them into sockets all over the house. This has been driving his wife nuts.
